Monitoring a site

Be told when your site stops answering, before your customers are.

What it looks at

A probe calls your address at regular intervals and notes what it gets: the response, its time, and the expiry date of the certificate. The record answers, in order, the three questions you ask on arriving: does it work, since when, and was it working last week.

Opening a monitor

The bar on the public pages takes you to the form with the address already filled in, but it opens nothing: one click remains. The rhythm is a real choice, and an address in an address bar must not be enough to trigger an action — a shared link or a reopened bookmark would open monitors nobody asked for.

An incident, and what reaches you

When the probe stops getting an answer, an incident is opened and you are told; it closes on its own when the site answers again, and you are told about that too. The screen keeps a trace of past incidents, with their duration and their cause: name not found, connection refused, timed out, or an answer in error.

Pausing

A sleeping monitor stops calling and stops alerting, without losing its history. While it sleeps, the rhythm and the immediate check are taken off the screen: a button that would silently restart what had been put to sleep is exactly the kind of surprise an alerting tool is not forgiven for.

What the plan opens up

With no option, an account monitors one address, at one check per hour, with seven days of history. The Watch option raises that to three addresses, one check every quarter of an hour and ninety days; the Agency option, to twenty-five addresses, one check every five minutes and a year.
