Start by clarifying what “does not appear” means. Your site may be completely missing of the index, visible only by its name, or classified too far down on a search like “Brussels electrician”. These three cases require different actions.
Take the test in five minutes
- Search for the exact URL, for example
votredomaine.be. - Search for
site:votredomaine.beto see some known engine pages. - Type the exact name of the company and its city.
- Test the business query in a private window, without considering your own history.
- Check Google Search Console, which remains the most reliable source for indexing.
| What you observe | Probable diagnosis |
|---|---|
No pages with site: |
New, unknown or blocked site |
| Home appears, not other pages | Insufficient exploration or content |
| Brand name appears | Site indexed, positioning work to continue |
| The site only appears very far away | Competition, relevance or insufficient authority |
Your site went live days ago
Google must first discover the address, crawl it and then decide which pages to index. Add the site to Search Console, send an XML sitemap and request home indexing. Also create links from your professional profiles and legitimate sites that are already talking about your activity.
Don't resend the request every day. This does not force indexing or ranking. Enjoy of the deadline to check that each page provides a complete answer.
An instruction blocks the motors
A “discourage motors” box, a noindex tag, a rule in robots.txt, a
Password protection or a bad canonical URL can rule out the site. This happens
often after a construction phase or a migration.
Also check that:
- the pages respond without server errors;
- the public address does not redirect in a loop;
- the HTTPS certificate is valid;
- Googlebot is not blocked by a firewall;
- the mobile version contains the main content.
Our SEO audit identifies some of these blockages. For complete control, follow the sheet method do an SEO audit.
The page is too poor or too close to another
Google does not necessarily index all the URLs it discovers. Google may discard a two-sentence page, a copy of another page, a worthless automatic list, or content reachable at several addresses.
Give each page a clean function. A service page must explain the need addressed, the progress, area, evidence, answers to questions and next action. Merge them pages that say the same thing and redirect old addresses.
Google indexes you but ranks you low
This is the most common case. Appearing on the company name proves that Google knows the site; not appearing on the job means that other pages seem more relevant, more local or more recognized.
Then work on four axes:
- The intention. Does a dedicated page answer the search exactly?
- Proofs. Show achievements, area served, team, deadlines and authentic reviews.
- The premises. Complete your establishment file and keep name, address and telephone number consistent everywhere.
- Notoriety. Obtain mentions and links from actors really linked to your activity.
Do not repeat the city and the profession twenty times. Write for the client first; the engine knows recognize synonyms and especially penalizes a page that is difficult to read and unconvincing.
A manual action or security issue exists
Search Console reports manual actions, hacked pages, and some browser issues security. If an alert appears, correct its cause, document the cleaning and then request a re-examination when the interface allows it. Changing only the texts or the title will not solve a compromised site.
The checklist after correction
- the page is public, in HTTPS and responds in status 200;
- no
noindexdirective blocks it; - the canonical URL designates the correct address;
- the sitemap contains the page;
- at least one relevant internal page creates a link to it;
- its title and content respond to a single intention;
- Search Console does not report any major errors.
Then request indexing once and track impressions, not just position on a keyword. First impressions indicate that the page is entering the race; clicks and requests will then say whether it really meets the need.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to appear on Google?
Google may find a new page in a few days, or in several weeks. Submitting a sitemap and making a request in Search Console makes discovery easier, but Google does not guarantee indexing time or position.
Why does my site appear with its name but not with my profession?
Google has indexed the site, but does not yet consider it relevant enough or recognized in commercial search. You need a dedicated page that clearly addresses the need, consistent local signals and legitimate links, then let the engine re-evaluate the site.
Can a free site appear on Google?
Yes, the price or the method of creation does not determine the indexing. The site must be public, accessible to robots, useful, sufficiently distinct and linked from other pages. A clean domain especially helps credibility and memorability.
Do you have to pay Google to appear in results?
No. Indexing and natural results are free. Google Ads allows you to purchase separate ads, but does not provide any benefit to the site's natural ranking.
