What exactly is compared
Both home pages, and nothing else. The full search audit walks up to twenty pages; doing that twice would take twice as long in front of someone waiting, for a comparison that would be no fairer. Comparing one home page with another is an honest comparison, because it is the same measure on both sides. To go deep on a single site, the SEO audit and the accessibility test are there for that.
What this comparison does not say
Neither traffic, nor Google rankings, nor the quality of the writing: none of it can be read from a served page. A site that scores better here is better BUILT, which is not the same as better placed. A lower-scoring competitor may well outrank you thanks to age, inbound links or what they write. What the comparison shows is the construction points where you start with a handicap you do not need.

If I score better, will I outrank them in Google?
Not necessarily. We measure how the pages are built, not visibility. Domain age, inbound links and what they write count at least as much, and none of it can be read from the HTML. Good construction is not enough, but bad construction loses you points you have no reason to lose.
Is it really the same measure on both sides?
Yes, and that is the point. The same checks, the same weights, the same robot, at the same moment. We do not even know which of the two sites is yours: the left field is called “your site” for the readability of the result, nothing more.
