What to do in the first hours
In order, and with nothing more than what is needed.
Depending on where the death occurred

At home
Call the family doctor or, at night, the duty doctor. They establish the certificate of death, without which nothing can begin. Then call us.

In hospital or in a care home
The staff establish the certificate and keep the deceased. You remain free to choose the funeral firm: the one offered on site is never imposed.

In case of a violent or unexplained death
Inform the police, who arrange for a forensic doctor. The body cannot be moved before the public prosecutor authorises it.
The documents to gather
Of the deceased
Identity card, marriage booklet if applicable, and the certificate of death from the doctor.
Their wishes
Will, last wishes lodged with the municipality, funeral insurance contract or a burial plot already acquired.
Of the family
Identity card of the person who will sign, and contact details of the relatives to be informed.
Questions asked on the first day
The funeral takes place within a period that varies with the municipality and the type of burial. In practice you have a few days: there is no need to choose a coffin that same evening.
