Three numbers to know
Life-threatening: call 112
Chest pain, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, heavy bleeding. Call 112, without waiting for the practice.
Medical on-call: 1733
In the evening, at weekends and on public holidays, 1733 directs you to the duty doctor for the area.
Pharmacy on duty: 0903 99 000
For an urgent prescription outside pharmacy opening hours.
What counts as an emergency, and what can wait
Under three months, yes, without waiting. Beyond that, what matters is behaviour: a child who drinks, responds and can be comforted can wait until the next day. A listless or whimpering child, or one refusing to drink, is a case for the duty doctor.
